Welcoming a child into the family is an exciting time for many of us. But being pregnant and giving birth can be hectic especially during the holiday season and not to mention a global pandemic. For most people the transition into being parents is a time in which empathy, compassion, and a willingness to learn more about your own (and your partner’s) mental health becomes crucial.
We invite you to join us on this episode of Ninety-Nine Percent Effective when our hosts sit down with Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Laura Badecker, to discuss mental health before and after giving birth. Laura talks through identifying often unnoticed signs of postpartum and prenatal mood disorders in women, men, and couples, and then gives helpful insight on finding support and resources that are right for you. Above all, our hosts and Laura remind us that many of these feelings we experience during the prenatal and postpartum stages are normal. You are not alone, the support you need is out there, and our goal is to help you find it.

Hey 99% Effective Listeners! This summer we released the first ever sibling series on our show. The sibling series focused on all aspects of growing up as/with a sibling with a disability. The success and interest of the series inspired us to reach out to our two friends Gabby and Amanda. Two sisters who live a full life and are built-in best friends.

We are truly excited for this episode to drop! The FINAL episode of our sibling series is a panel made up of three incredible pairs of siblings reflecting on their life experiences. In this episode you will meet: Kelly and Erin, Laura and Jack, and Allison and Melissa. These siblings discuss their experiences growing up together, life aspirations, and their experiences in their communities.
The SARAH Inc. Summer Sibling Series - Sibling Panel is facilitated by none other than Emily Holl (from our first episode of the Summer Sibling Series)! Emily Holl is the Director of the Sibling Support Project which was founded in 1990. It is the first national program dedicated to the life-long and ever-changing concerns of millions of brothers and sisters of people with special health, developmental, and mental health concerns.
Emily is a social worker by trade, but also an author, trainer, and sibling who since 2003, has worked in the disability field and provided workshops, training, and groups for siblings, families, and individuals with disabilities.

We are excited to drop the THIRD EPISODE of our Summer Sibling Series! This Summer we are exploring the key aspects of growing up with/as a sibling with a differing ability.
In this episode, we are speaking with Amy McCoy. Amy is a children’s author and disability educator. Amy discusses the defining moments as a parent in which she realized that her daughter’s experience, as a younger sibling to a brother with autism, was going to be different from other siblings’ experiences.
During this conversation, Amy talks through the challenges and opportunities that siblings may face growing up together and shares advice to help parents communicate and support their children during these situations. She discusses fostering an environment in which all children feel comfortable and encouraged to develop meaningful connections with their siblings.
